The Children's Internet Protection Act of 2000 (CIPA)The Children's Internet Protection Act, which was signed into law in December of 2000, requires schools to certify that they enforce an Internet Safety Policy. The Safety Policy must use blocking and filtering technology to assure the safety and security of minors.
In order to receive E-rate funding schools must be CIPA compliant. Schools which are not CIPA compliant are ineligible to receive funding and my even be required to forfeit e-rate funds from prior years. To be compliant a school must do the following: To meet the compliance guidelines schools should choose a CIPA compliant product for their student email and online communication.
