Course Summary

Level 1: Instructional Applications for: email & Digital Citizenship

The use of email as an essential communication and collaboration tool is a given in the professional world. Today's educators can increase their own productivity by learning to effectively communicate and collaborate with colleagues, parents, community members, and their students with this common medium. Using today's technology is an important component in promoting the professionalism of our country's undervalued educators. Gaggle's first course in our Core Skills for the Digital Classroom series cover three main areas in the application of email to instruction.

User Skills: Participants will learn why it's replaced outdated methods, and practice the basic skills of using professional email. Hands-on activities will cover the nuts and bolts from organizing messages, and utilizing address groups, to maximizing their message through customization. Tech-savvy teachers will learn a trick or two, and those who still rely on a note in their office mailbox will gain the basic skills to stay in the electronic loop.
Digital Citizenship: Participants will explore the meaning of netiquette as it applies to electronic communication, learn to identify common mistakes and inappropriate form, and how to apply the rules to their own email, as well as become better role models for the students they teach.
Lesson Strategies: Participants will learn how to use email to support instruction in any subject, to tap into resources in the local and global community, and provide relevant writing activities for their students. Teachers will collaborate to create a few lesson plans that they can use immediately in their classroom
