Q & AIndexAbout usContact

Background

Gaggle is committed to protecting our users from inappropriate materials and content received and sent via e-mail while providing an exciting opportunity to expand the learning environment.

Starting in September 2000, Gaggle began displaying advertising on the web site. These advertising and sponsorship activities are crucial to keeping Gaggle free for schools and students. If your school would prefer not to see advertising, Gaggle offers a paid version of the service.

Children's Online Privacy Protection Act

If your school has users under the age of thirteen, use of the Free Version of Gaggle implies that your school is acting as a proxy for parental consent and agrees to the advertising, data collection and terms of service of the Gaggle web site. Click here for more information on COPPA compliance.

Monitored Advertising

In order to protect our student users, Gaggle will not accept advertisements that promote the following types of products or activities:

  1. Advertisements that promote sexual conduct or sexually explicit material
  2. Advertisements that promote or depict the use of tobacco
  3. Advertisements that promote gambling
  4. Advertisements that promote the use of illegal drugs or alcohol
  5. Advertisements that promote violence
  6. Advertisements that promote any illegal activity
  7. Advertisements that promote or incite hatred of any kind

As part of our monitoring activities, Gaggle personnel will review ads prior to their appearance on the web site. Each advertisement will be reviewed to ensure that it is appropriate for our students and teachers. In addition, we will be consulting with a committee of educators to develop policies that balance the needs of Gaggle and our users.

Non-Targeted Advertising

At times the advertising which runs on Gaggle may not be targeted to our specific users. Such bulk advertising may include topics such as credit cards, home loans, investing, careers etc. While not prefereable the bulk advertising is important to the growth and stability of the Gaggle service. As we grow larger, the advertising on Gaggle will become more focused on the interests on our users.

Types of Advertisements

As the Gaggle service evolves the placement and medium for advertising may change. Possible types of advertisements include:

  1. Traditional 468x60 Banner Ads
  2. Login ads that appear before the Inbox screen (YesMail offer etc.)
  3. Email based ads sent to users (We will not share users addresses with any third party companies.)
  4. Pop-ups and interstitials
  5. Tag line advertisements in outgoing mail
  6. Site Sponsorships
  7. Button links
  8. Special resource sections
